Institutional Resistance to Online Education Initiatives

Why is Institutional Resistance to Online Education Initiatives important?

Many in our classes and our program have voiced problems they have in getting cooperation among faculty and administrators at their institution. They experience many forms of resistance that inhibits their ability to get online initiatives to fruition.  Let’s face it, you may have the best idea in the world but if you can’t get cooperation it may be doomed to failure or to sub optimum success levels. Our success will probably depend not only on our teaching ability and certificates and degrees, but on our ability to sell and explain the benefits of our programs. “In order for institutions of higher education to undergo significant transformation, changes must be approved, accepted, and ultimately put into practice by the teaching faculty” (Jaffee, 1998).
