Overcoming Faculty Resistance

·        “Faculty need assistance and the resources to design and use these technologies” (The University of Memphis, 2001).

·        “One of the greatest needs of faculty is computers. If faculty are expected to advise and teach students, then the technology must be available on their desks.” (The University of Memphis, 2001).

·        “Faculty will also need continuous training and development opportunities and support to incorporate technology to meet instructional objectives. (The University of Memphis, 2001).

·        If we can deliver a better product to the students at a much lower cost to them and lower cost to other sources of funding, we have a moral obligation to do so.

·        Online classes should not adversely affect faculty positions, as student-teacher ratios should be maintained to ensure quality. (Stapp, 2001, p 18).

·        Online classes can add to job security by making the institution more secure financially and competitive in global markets.
