This is a 3-credit online and independent study course in physical geology, with a one credit laboratory co-requisite. Textbook reading and assignment will be required with the use of the compact disc that comes with the textbook, and the associated Internet site at http://www.prenhall.com/tarbuck.

The student will be required to answer the questions at the end of each chapter and send them to the instructor. He will take a mid-term and final test, and complete 2 projects, "Virtual Volcanoes" or "Dante's Peak", and complete the final Field Trip project. The first project is a "virtual" field trip that will take the student on a tour of the volcanoes of the island of Hawaii, and gain an understanding of the features and processes involved in their creation. In the alternative, the students could see the video "Dante's Peak", after reading chapter on volcanoes, and answer a series of questions that require the identification of the volcanoes location, its dangerousness, scientific factors, etc.. The Final Project is a Field Trip to any geologically interesting area the students chooses and prepare a written report to the instructor. This course is offered by Southern Utah University. Because of the nature of the moving pictures, lot of colors in the volcanoes, you can guess what Bobby is going to say.
